Hello Eagle Parents!
Every year we have the honor of celebrating our ancestry and rich culture for the entire month of February. This year, we will have our Black History Art Auction again, and scholars in Junior K through 3rd Grade will create art projects that represent different stages of Black History! Parents, thank you for making last year's Black History Auction an incredible success!
When: The auction will begin on Friday, February 25th at noon, and end on Sunday, February 27th at 11:59 PM!
There will be five art sections of our auction that tell the story of our history and speaks to a future we all wish to see one day:
1. Pre-Bondage: depicting what life was like before slavery
2. Bondage: depicting what life was like in a strange land with harsh living conditions
3. Freedom Fighters: depicting the strong and brave people that fought for our freedom
4. Activists: depicting the courageous that fought/are continuing to fight for our equality
5. True Freedom: depicting what true freedom will look and feel like
Each piece for our auction will be created by our very own Junior K through 3rd Grade scholars. Parents, we hope you are thrilled because the auction will teach the culture and history of our ancestors through hands-on creativity. Art has influenced society for centuries by changing opinions, instilling values, and translating experiences. Art is often known as a type of universal communication as it transverses languages and speaks through images, sounds and stories. Allowing our scholars to learn through creating will help them express themselves while embracing their history. The K2 and K3 classes will be creating Black History Art at school. They will learn the importance of telling a story and expressing themselves through art.
The Junior K through 3rd Grade classes will have an opportunity to sign up for different art projects. Scholars must sign up by February 2nd. Follow these instructions to help your scholar sign up for their preferred project:
1. Go to website: volunteersignup.org/JYTPL.
2. Select the row that contains the project your scholar would like to create.
3. Fill out the form with your scholar’s first and last name and your email.
4. After filling out the required form, please look below for the project details and rubric.
Please note that there is a limited amount of space for each project, and the signup sheet is first come, first served. If you have any questions regarding signing up, you can select the button at the bottom of the list labeled “Contact the signup sheet manager,” and we will assist you as soon as possible. Scholars must submit the project that they sign up for. Parents, please ensure that your scholar participates in creating and understands their project. Please allow them to learn three facts about their project that they will share with their teacher and classmates. Please note that projects will be graded based on creativity, attention to detail, and following directions. Projects will be scored by our Black History team, and scores will be recorded for the social studies/history subject. Please review the project rubric below.
Parents, if you'd like to support our auction by donating goods or services to be auctioned, please email support@bol.academy for more information.
The three art pieces that receive the highest bids will receive special prizes! All creations are due by February 17th and must be brought with the project information slip. Please ensure that your scholar's art is labeled or brought in a labeled bag.
